Acne Vulgaris is a common skin disease that most often is seen on the face, but sometimes on the back and chest.   The condition is caused when hair follicles and the underlying sebaceous are blocked and/or become inflamed due to a buildup of dead skin cells, bacteria, and oil.

The most common treatments for Acne Vulgaris come in the form of creams, lotions, or pads.  Many are available over the counter, or through a commercial pharmacy, with occasionally limited success.

Health Dimensions Clinical Pharmacy can produce customized medications that have stronger concentrations of the active ingredients in dermatology medications such as Benzoyl Peroxide and Glycolic acid. There are studies that suggest there are compounded medication solutions for acne scarring as well.  The customization doesn’t end at dosage, but also the alternative delivery methods that are often not available through commercial pharmacies. These personalized medications can target specific types of acne as well as be specifically suited for certain skin types.

While not dangerous to a patient’s physical health, hyperpigmentation  (otherwise known as dark spots on the skin) can be psychologically and emotionally damaging to those who suffer from it. One form of this condition is melasma, but there are several skin conditions that can cause dark spots including post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and even drug-induced spots.

Topical agents of varying forms are the primary form for treating melasma and other skin conditions.  Health Dimensions Clinical Pharmacy will work with dermatologists and other healthcare professionals to create customized medications that are the right combination of desired drugs and the right dosage for individual patients, reducing the chances of negative results due to unnecessary ingredients in the medication.

Addressing hair loss (the common form is called Alopecia) has come a long way from a time when the only answer was a wig or hair replacement.  Compounded treatments that involve a variety of medications have increased the opportunity for successful results in treating hair loss.

A number of studies have shown that these standard medications, when used in combination are more effective than when used separately.   One study showed a topical cream made out of Minoxidil, Finasteride, Biotin, and Caffeine Citrate (10%/0.1%/0.2%/0.05%) was a safe treatment for androgenetic alopecia.

Health Dimensions Clinical Pharmacy works with prescribing physicians to create a customized medications for alopecia regardless of form, and regardless how it is applied.

Psoriasis is characterized by symptoms such as red, scaly patches on the skin, itching, and sometimes even cracking or bleeding in severe cases. These symptoms often vary by individual, and the affected areas can range from small, isolated patches to widespread coverage across the body. Traditional treatments can sometimes fall short, especially for those experiencing persistent itching, thickened skin, or areas resistant to standard therapies.

Compounded medications offer a targeted approach by combining specific ingredients that address multiple symptoms simultaneously. For example, a compounded cream might include corticosteroids to reduce inflammation, salicylic acid to help soften and remove scales, and moisturizers to combat dryness and itching. By customizing the concentration of each component, a compounded formulation can be tailored to the severity and type of psoriasis, whether it’s mild plaque psoriasis or a more extensive case like erythrodermic psoriasis.

Additionally, for patients with hard-to-treat areas like the scalp or elbows, compounded solutions can be made in various forms, such as foams or gels, which allow for easier application and absorption.

Any prescription recommendations that result from the consultation must be authorized by a prescriber and will be sent to the prescriber of your choice.
